Join instructor Tammy Oesting as we explore new possibilities for evoking awe and wonder in ourselves, our classrooms, and our students. 

This course provides concrete demonstrations, materials, and samples of how building ecological consciousness in young children is possible and requires only the teacher’s own wonder and awe.

After this course, teachers will be able to utilize traditional geography and life science lessons to create a foundation for ecological thinking. These presentations include networks, nested systems, interdependence, diversity, cycles, flows, and development.

Examine the conditions of a Montessori Environment more closely

Shake up the approach to life sciences in the Montessori classroom 

Learn to cultivate connections between young children and nature

Develop an understanding of systems thinking

We will look at:


Ecological consciousness and Maria Montessori’s own writings about the natural world.

Lesson presentations that will develop ecological consciousness in our students.

How to integrate systems thinking within the classroom that fosters an understanding of ecological systems.




Tammy Oesting


Tammy Oesting M.Ed. (she/her), is an internationally known Montessori speaker and teacher educator. With AMS certifications for the Primary, Lower, and Upper Elementary levels, and 17 years of experience in the classroom, she has the training, knowledge, and experience needed to support professionals at various stages of their careers. Tammy has a talent for making abstract concepts accessible. She has spent the last two decades delivering professional development workshops, consulting schools, and educating new Montessori teachers. Her passions include issues of social justice, educating support staff, life sciences, neuroscience as applied to educational practices, and exploring the magnificence of the world.

Tammy holds a B.S. Art from Portland State University and M.Ed. in Montessori Integrated Learning through TIES at Endicott College.

When does the course start and finish?

This course consists of pre-recorded videos. You will gain access to all the videos as soon as you register. You have access for one year and you may watch at your convenience, as often as you wish, during that time.


Is this appropriate for parents?

The principles in this webinar can certainly be applied by parents. However, most of the examples used will be for a classroom setting and will reflect the student-teacher dynamic. We will not be addressing parents' needs specifically.
